The last days in New Zealand were spent at the Church Area Office in downtown Auckland. We were able to go to the Temple down in Hamilton and to sightsee a little of the area.
We left Auckland on Sunday afternoon and flew to Fiji. We Spent the night in Fiji and flew out the next morning. While sitting in the plane on the tarmac in Fiji the pilot reported to us that we would be delayed 20 minutes because the ground crew forgot to fuel the plane. Then 15 minutes later he announced that a Singapore Airlines Plane was broke down on the runway and we would be delayed until they could tow it off the runway. We finally took off about 1.5 hrs late. They didn't build trust in me. But we arrived safely in Tarawa Kiribati.
This is in Fiji. We are waiting for a shuttle to take us to the hotel.
This island is call North Tab. It lies just south of Tarawa.
It is low tide in this picture as we are banking around to land. The airport is at the top left corner of the picture.
Here is Bonriki International Airport.
Here is a picture of the airport when the US Corps of Engineers built the airstrip after the battle of Tarawa in WWII.
